"Disciplining the Horn" is an interdisciplinary conference. Keynote speaker and guest clinician Sean Kierman of the University of Cape Town, South Africa, is Professor of horn at that institution, and a noted expert on Audio-Psycho-Phonology. Kierman was also a leader of "The Genesis Project," an outreach endeavor that brought music education to Cape Flats, one of the most destitute areas of South Africa in the period of the country's transition to a multi-racial democracy. The conference will bring together researchers from Music, Black Studies, and Psychology in a series of lectures, performances, and panel discussions.
